Props, locations etc. (PLANNING)
The images above were taken for our magazine. When we took our pictures, we thought very carefully about our location and our clothing, so they show our music genre. We didn't want to use any props as we wanted the location and the model to be the main focuses of the audiences eye, the audience could relate to our magazine as it is an underground genre and the location we chose represents underground as graffiti is underground.
We thought make up was important so that the pictures would come out nice and would appeal to the audience with the model looking nice for the front cover and would also to appeal to the females looking at fashion and make up so get any tips or to be like the artists.

Double Page Spread Analysis - (RESEARCH)
Double Page Spread Analysis
The double page spread draws the readers eye with the big main image and other smaller images. The percentage of words is roughly 30% and images 70% suggesting their target audience prefer to see images rather than text. Also, the text may get straight to the point and suggest its audience are ‘no-nonsense’. This shows that the audience like to get straight to the point of the article and do not like to read pointless conversation between interviewer and interviewee. The shots used in the magazine are a variation of mid shots and close ups. The close ups help the reader of the magazine to see their facial expressions and to have an understanding of their emotion. The mid shots give us a closer insight to the artist themself and takes away their surroundings. The artists long hair suggests that he is a rock musician and his smart but casual clothing suggests he is still young but is able to dress smart.
However, this double page page spread is not for the genre of my magazine, I wanted to research what magazines had in their magazines and how they were laid out on the page.
The most important thing visually, the image takes up one page of the double page. The image is a positive representation of the band, as the singer looks focused and concentrated on performing to a high standard. A double page spread takes up a large amount of space and can be costly to produce. For this reason it is important that the double page spread will be important and appeal to the readers and is likely to be a main feature article of the magazine. Kerrang focuses on rock music.

The images assume that the audience would like to read about how successful the band are and how they got to be so successful. Images on the page attract the audience’s attention as they are fully concentrated and this is what the audience want to see, as they want good music to a high standard to listen to.
The text used for the main article is in columns which is conventional for magazines. Text is set on a black background with white writing to make it stand out.
The main colours on the page are red, white and black; these colours are very bold and can still be a suggestion of the audience the magazine is targeting. Stereotypically, these colours would be related to the genre of music the audience listen to, as it is stereotypically quite bold and dark.
Kerrang attract their audience by asking questions in the interview which the audience would be interested in knowing, they also attract their audience by having photos of the band that would appeal to their audience.

This magazine spread relates more to my genre of music as it is rebellious and bold, and seeks attention of it's audience. When comparing the double page spreads, I wanted to have a spread that completely contrasted my genre (Kerrang > Rock) and one that was similar.
I probably will not have my double page like this. Researching is important so that I can understand what the conventions of double page spreads are and apply them in my own magazine.

Quick sketch of flat plan. (PLANNING)
I want the conventions of my front page to fit in with the conventions of established magazines so that the audience know what to expect with the conventions when reading. However, for my contents page I have tried to go with the conventions of again established magazines but I will probably go against them to possibly suggest that my audience are slightly rebellious and do not stick to structure.
