How did you attract/address your audience?
To address my audience, I asked for feedback on my front page, contents page and double page spread. I received a mixture of positive and negative feedback for my magazine. I felt it was necessary to address my audience to receive feedback and understand what was liked and what wasn’t.
When asking Year 11 Media Studies students what they thought of my magazine I received positive comments. I asked the students when in their Media lesson to have a look at my magazine. This would work both ways as they were able to further their knowledge in analysing magazines and I was able to understand what the students liked in my magazine.
Some of the comments were:
Front cover:
- "Looks professional, Has conventions of a magazine on it, for example, the bar code, a price, content of the magazine and the featured article."
Contents Page:
- "I like the boldness around the pictures and I also like that it is not overcrowded with information."
Double Page Spread:
- "Content of the article is good, the images have been cleverly manipulated and look effective. I like it"
When I asked an opportunity sample at some computers in school, I began to receive a bit of negative feedback because people said “it didn’t appeal to them” and that it wasn’t the music genre they was interested in, but this is the problem with a music genre that appeals to a niche audience and I understand that the genre of the magazine will not appeal to everyone. I then asked them "Although it doesn't appeal to you, do you like anything about the magazine?" I then began to receive some positive feedback As they said "The graffiti shows the underground genre and they like the variation of images."
I attracted my audience to my magazine by carrying out a questionnaire before I created my magazine. This was helpful as I could gain an insight into what genres was liked and what the students would pay for a magazine,. This was helpful as I had ways to attract and appeal to them. I feel this was successful and gives foundation information about the audience which is needed to create a magazine.
